'I want to be a politician', you got to say so!

It is election time. Everyone is talking about politics. Even if you don’t want to hear about it, you end up hearing about it. But you know what? No one wants their children to become politicians.

No kid ever says, ‘I want to be a politician when I grow up.’

Why is it so? Why does everyone hate politics so much? The Shepherd of Readersburg tried to figure it out and here is what we found. One reason why most people hate this profession is because of the way it is presented.

The political debates on TV, the speeches by politicians, the behaviour of politicians, the language they use etc. does not make you feel very comfortable. It leaves you thinking that this is not the profession for you. You start believing that politics is for some other kind of people who are not good in studies and who do not obey their parents.

But that is not right. It is a good profession. It gives you power to make so many changes that would help the people of the country and would help the country to become richer. Then why should you hate this profession?

There is one more myth that the profession of politics is full of people who have never been to school and who do not read books generally. This is partly true. That is because you don’t need a college or school certificate to become a politician. If you can win votes, you can become a politician.

But that does not mean that if you are well-educated and well-read, you cannot become a politician. There are many Indian politicians who are highly educated. They read a lot of books too.

Also, all politicians do not use bad language.

You know, if more educated people and readers, like you, become politicians, politics will become an attractive profession.

Then we will hear more children say, ‘I want to be a politician when I grow up.’ That would be such a perfect world.
