Down south, Sri Lanka had a terrible Easter Sunday. It were the terrorists! While people prayed at churches, three powerful bombs went off. More than 400 people were killed.
The terrorist group, Islamic State, said it had done it. Sri Lankan police have carried out raids to find the terrorists. When this paper published late on Saturday night, the latest was that some terrorists had killed themselves when the police went to conduct raids at their hideouts. Hideouts are places where criminals hide so that the police cannot find them. It was again a bomb blast. Fifteen people were killed in this.
Now that much is information. Now let’s think a bit...about terrorism, about what can be done about it, about helpless governments and about people who are the direct targets.
There are a lot questions that should pop up in your mind each time you hear about bombs going off or shootings in public places. If not, The Shepherd of Readersburg will put some in your minds. Not that this shepherd wants you to get worried. But because The Shepherd of Readersburg wants you to be thoughtful about things that matter. The Shepherd of Readersburg wants you to develop a perspective and the right substantial perspective rather than a flying perspective that is no good anyway.
So then here’s it: What is it about terrorists that they have existed for years but no governments has been able to tackle them?
It is true that crime is always a few steps ahead of the police and the governments. But can it be really so ahead that no government can figure out anyway to tackle it right?
In the Sri Lanka bombings, like in the case of Pulwama terror attack in which around 40 Indian soldiers were killed on 14 February, there was an intelligence failure. This means that the police and security personnel knew that such an attack was going to happen. Yet, it was not taken seriously. So can we say that governments are not doing enough to keep their people safe? Or is it that terrorists have schooled themselves really well in the art of fooling governments?
Make notes of your thoughts. It will help you develop a focused perspective. And your perspective, then, will be of professional quality, a perspective much above drawing room or street conversations. And this perspective is all you need to take over that debate contest or grab that job late on in life.
So pick up your pen and your notebook, write your stories. You will keep getting better by the day, by the story!
